We appreciate every donation, both big and small, but by becoming a major donor to Gingerbread, you can have a huge impact on single parent families in need of support. These gifts allow us to reach significantly more people, and allow us to plan ahead.

How a major gift helps

Gingerbread relies on the generous support of individuals who feel passionate about what we do. Without our supporters, we wouldn’t be able to run our services for single parent families, or campaign with them on policy issues, to ensure their children don’t grow up in poverty, like universal credit and child maintenance.

Every time I phone Gingerbread, I get the best advice ever. Every time I phone anyone else, they can't help - but you know everything. The way you put things is so easy to understand and you're so friendly and helpful. I tell everyone about you! I can't say enough good things about you.

Gingerbread Helpline Caller

By making a major gift to Gingerbread, you can make sure that our vital services – like our free helpline – are there when single parents need expert support. Here are some examples of the difference your gift could make:

£2,000 could provide six months of 1-2-1 support to 10 single parents setting up their own Gingerbread groups

£5,000 could allow over 4,000 single parents to get advice and support from other parents on our forum

£10,000 could pay for 10 networking and training events to allow single parent volunteers to develop their confidence and skills, and meet other parents

Gareth has been giving major gifts to Gingerbread since 2011 when he got divorced. He saw first-hand how difficult life is for single parent families, even with a very good job and good relationship with the mother of his children. He decided to give major gifts to Gingerbread as we are experts in supporting single parents to ensure they and their children thrive.

Case Study: Gareth, major donor

“I give to Gingerbread to help people out in the same position as me who don’t have the same resources.”

I got divorced from my wife. Splitting up is always horrendous. The emotional and financial upheaval is unbelievable. In my fortunate position, I could provide the children with what they needed. I was able to keep my kids in the same schools, and I get on okay with their mum. I’m lucky my children have come out of it relatively well, though not completely unscathed.

But it made me realise that someone not in my fortunate position would really struggle with the basics like leaving the family home. At the same time, the children are going through a hard time. It’s a big rupture in their lives, and in situations where there is physical and emotional abuse, it must be even worse.

I give to Gingerbread to help people out in the same position as me who don't have the same resources. Gingerbread has the expertise to work with parents to help avoid or minimise the impact of the transition to single parenthood on the children. I give regular monthly donations to four big charities, but I wanted to give a large donation to a different kind of charity specifically focused on single parent families who are having difficulties. I’m happy to help how I can.
