I’m in my second year of university, you’ll get universal credit for ‘two children’ I get around 750 (out of around 1140)(if I wasn’t to work) £350 is taken off universal credit as ‘income from maintenance loan.

    For 2021-2021 I got the maximum maintenance loan of £10815, paid around 10 Oct/Jan 11ish / April 20—- then in grants £1821

Then through my actual university they gave me around £500 over three payments as a busery (depending on attendance)

only problem I’m having atm is universal credit expect me to work an additional 25hours a week on top on university full time. (I’m dyslexic so it takes me a lot longer to get my assignments in) fitting it around school hours and evenings is difficult. I now have to attend two weekly work search appointments 🤦🏻‍♀️

But all will be worth it in the long run, I don’t think I’ll ever find anyone to share a life with, so it’s important to me to have a good wage and hopefully never rely on universal credit to top me up again!

I’m actually considering not applying for the maintenance loan and finishing my last year (making it two years) as part time this October .  when I think about it, you have to pay the loan back on an income of 27k, where as if I have to work the 25hours anyway (with my youngest now being in reception.) I’ll live of my wage plus universal credit. (Which I won’t have to pay back) if that makes sense 😊
