Shortlist announced for the ‘One in Four’ new writer competition

Posted 7 February 2018

Last September, Gingerbread (in conjunction with Trapeze Books and The Pool) announced a competition to look for new writers. The submitted book proposals came from those with experience of single parent family life - whether the writer was a single parent, used to be, or was raised by one.

We received hundreds of submissions, and yesterday, announced the shortlisted entries. The shortlisted entries will be judged by a panel, and one will be selected as a winner and receive a publishing contract with Trapeze Books, an advance of £10,000 and three hours of mentoring by Sunday Times bestselling author Tilly Bagshawe.

The shortlisted entrants are as follows:

Hannah Campbell-Wharam
Jemma Wallace
Jo Barker
Linda Bryan
Paula Espinosa Valarezo
Ruth Murphy
Sam Pope
Shaun Dovaston

  1. I’m still illustrating, I have finally finished my graphic novel “Cloudbusting”, which is due to be published! If Trapeze Books require an illustrator for the successful writer’s books, I’d like to hear from them!

    Thanks!
