If you log in to your student finance account it should tell you on your statement how much is taken into account by UC (on your entitlement statement). For me, I was awarded approx 12k across the year in student finance and 4k of that is not taken into account. Make sure you stress that when talking to UC and don’t mention any grants either as you are not obliged to and they shouldn’t be taken into account but UC will try to get away with what they can. Me and my friend were in the exact same situation (student single mothers) and they payed her far less for months until she managed to get it sorted out- they don’t always get things right.
