We had a financial order written by a Solicitor which my ex husband and I signed.
My ex husband ended our marriage and walked out of the family home. My immediate thoughts after he left were not about selling the house, as my ex decided to leave, the house we lived in was round the corner from my daughter’s school and we lived in poverty most of our married life because of his reckless attitude to money. I wasn’t going to bow down to what he wanted after he destroyed mine and my daughter’s life.

A year after he left, I thought about moving simply to break ties with my ex but my daughter hated the idea so I didn’t. She was still young and hasn’t asked for any of this.

The financial order was written in the way it was written to account for the life of debt and poverty my ex husband brought on us all and because he couldn’t afford to pay his half of the mortgage after he left. I had a very good Solicitor. In the financial order, it stated the family home was to be sold once our daughter turned 18 or I could buy him out

The house isn’t in negative equity.

    Hello TillyCat,

I’ve been in a similar situation with my ex husband although I was the one that stayed in the family home. My ex husband stopped paying his half of the mortgage payments as he couldn’t afford to pay them as well as his rent and child maintenance.
We have an arrangement now that when our house is sold, he will pay me back all his mortgage payments I have made on his behalf over the years.
