Thanks to their amazing and important work, single parents were not forgotten during this crucial general election period.
Some of their achievements throughout the year included:
– Ensuring Gingerbread’s key asks were included in party manifestos, such as Labour’s commitment to reviewing Universal Credit and the Conservative pledge to reform the Child Maintenance Service.
– Engaging 25 parliamentarians at our manifesto event.
– Expanding our network of MP champions.
– Creating engaging and impactful content for our website, social media, emails and more!
– Organising hustings events.
– Regular engagement with MPs.
– A campaigner delivering a speech at the Labour Party Conference.
We are incredibly proud of the work this group has done throughout the year. Their dedication, passion, and commitment to advocating for single parents and their children have been truly inspiring and their invaluable contributions have helped shape a fairer world for single parent families. Through their efforts, they have contributed to a movement of single parents working together towards a shared vision of greater fairness, equality, and support for all single parents and their children. Ruth Talbot

Ruth received 2 separate nominations:

‘Ruth founded Single Parent Rights, a campaign organisation to help single parents by fairer inclusion and to add the single parent status to the conditions protected by anti-discrimination laws.’

‘Ruth runs Single Parent Rights and puts so much effort into ensuring single parents are entitled to more and not overlooked by key policy makers. Most recently, Single Parent Rights published policy guidelines for schools which I was able to share with my sons school, this is just one example of the real actionable changes Ruth is working on. I volunteer with the organisation and see the work and dedication that Ruth puts into the making sure single parents are no longer left behind. Her energy and dedication is infectious and we are lucky to have her in the single parent community.’
