Generation: You Employed to offer support for single parents looking at a career in tech

Posted 3 August 2022

Generation: You Employed is proud to be partnering with Gingerbread to support single parents and carers into the tech sector through our unique skills boot-camps.

Generation is a global charity whose mission is to prepare, place and support people into life-changing careers. We work with employers to break down barriers to employment and launch our programme graduates into sustainable jobs in booming industries. To date, we have supported over 40,000 people into meaningful careers.

Through our programmes, adults of all ages—whether unemployed, underemployed, or needing to learn new skills—can connect to the training, support, and jobs to change their path.

We’ve been working hard to understand the barriers to participating in our boot-camps faced by parents and carers and we’re excited to be offering our first boot-camp designed specifically to support parents and carers later this year.

Launching on 26th September for London residents, our Cloud Practitioner boot-camp provides the ideal springboard for anyone looking to get into the tech industry.

Designed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services, the Cloud boot-camp is a free, part-time, 16-week programme that will teach you the industry skills required and then connect you to hiring employers for job interviews.

This part-time skills boot-camp is designed to fit around your life and commitments without the need for lots of extra independent study – for this reason, we enthusiastically encourage parents and people with dependants to apply.

Gingerbread CEO Victoria Benson said:

“We are really pleased to be working with Generation UK, who create programmes to place people in long term careers. Through our partnership approach we are further able to influence the journey of the single parent within the employment sector, which in turn positively benefits their overall mental health and reduces child poverty.”

You don’t need any existing experience or qualifications to be part of this programme – just an enthusiasm for tech and a readiness to start your career when you graduate. Upon graduating, our Cloud graduates earn a starting salary of £25 – 30,000 per year and over 80% are employed within 3 months of graduating.

Upskilling your career can be challenging when you have parental responsibilities. As part of our mission to support those facing barriers to employment into meaningful career paths, we are providing on-course support for parents to make it easier for you to re-start your career journey.

We can offer:

  • Work from home boot-camp, allowing you to join an engaging interactive classroom and work with your peers without having to leave your home.
  • Part-time hours: this boot-camp will run between 9.30am – 2.30pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Financial help for parents and support from Generation to cover childcare responsibilities.
  • Advice on how to manage childcare responsibilities on course and when entering employment.
