Are you co-parenting with an ex-partner?

Do you have a 4-8 year old? Take part in new research study of separated parents

A research team at the University of Edinburgh is conducting a study to explore family life and children’s wellbeing in different post-separation parenting arrangements.

Lots of parents share the care of their children after separation or divorce (for example alternating weeks, 2-3 days a week). However, very little UK research has been done which looks at family relationships and child wellbeing in different post-separation child arrangements, particularly those made outside the court. Findings from the study will inform how families can best be supported in policy and practice.

Are you a parent of a child aged 4 – 8 year olds who:

  • Reached a non-court ordered child arrangement with your child’s other parent.
  • Has regular contact with their child(ren) and co-parent with their child’s other parent.
  • Has been separated for at least six months.
  • Lives in Scotland or England.
  • Are comfortable taking part in English.

Dr Sarah Foley and her team have already spoken to more than 50 families about their experiences, and they are looking to interview another 50.

What will you do?

  • An online interview about your co-parenting journey.
  • A survey on family life, your wellbeing and child development.
  • Children are also invited to take part if they wish to – there’s a fun game for you and your child and some picture and story-telling activities for your child.

As a thank you for your time, parents and children will receive a gift voucher. Participation is confidential and does not require all family members to take part.
