We need the government and employers to take notice so we can make it work for single parents. We can only do this with your help and support. You can help by:

  • Email the Chancellor: The government claims that universal credit will create a system whereby working longer hours will always make families better off.  However, we’ve got new research that shows that isn’t the case.  On the 5 December, George Osborne is expected to announce the detail of the new system.  This is a fantastic opportunity for the Chancellor to make it work for single parents, and you can help make sure it’s one he doesn’t pass up by emailing him today.
  • Join the make it workforce: Gingerbread, along with thousands of single parents, knows that the barriers to employment are not new. If we want to finally make a difference we need a show of strength. By joining the  make it workforce you will be able join the call for the government and employers to finally make it work for single parents
  • Email your MP: The first step in changing MP's minds is letting them know exactly why it is important to make it work for single parents. We want MP's to pledge their support for the campaigning and to promise to make it work by pressing for change in parliament. By getting in touch with your local MP, you can help to show that this isn't issue they can easily ignore
  • Tell a friend about the campaign: As the make it workforce grows it will become impossible for the government and employers to ignore us. Do you know someone who will want to help us in this journey? If so let them know about the campaign today
  • Tell us what makes it work for you: Do you already work? Have you had to face some of the challenges such as high childcare costs or have you had to turn down jobs to be there for your children? Please let us know how you made it work for you so we can make it work for everyone

  • Become a member: Are you a single parent? Being a member of Gingerbread means you get access to our lively forums, newsletter, special offers and local groups. You’ll also receive our monthly e-newsletter with the latest information and advice factsheets about money matters, benefits, work, child maintenance and other issues affecting single parents. And best of all, it’s  free to join!
  • Donate: As a national charity, we rely on the support of individuals who care enough to make sure single parents and their children get the best possible chance in life. It costs us £33 to answer a complex call on issues such as child maintenance or jobs and benefits through our Freephone Helpline. Starting a regular donation of £5.50 a month is enough for us to help two more single parents every year, so if you are able to support us with a donation today, please do
