Director of Policy

£61,032 per annum
Permanent, Full time
Kentish Town, London

Gingerbread’s campaigns, research and policy work make sure single parents’ voices are heard and taken seriously – in the workplace, in the headlines and in the corridors of power nationwide.

Campaigning against the poverty, disadvantage and stigma that many of the UK’s 2 million single parents face, Gingerbread has a strong track record of policy achievement on issues from child maintenance to childcare costs.

Our campaigns use the voices of single parents themselves to fight for change.  Our digital communications point the way to the vital support we provide through our online information and peer support, and the telephone Helpline. Last year over half a million single parents accessed our website for information or support.

The role

This is an exciting role, ideal for a professional who wants to take lead responsibility for policy, advocacy and research in a highly effective campaigning charity.  This role has a strong external focus and you will personally manage relationships with ministers, political parties, public, private and charity sector partners.

This is a wide ranging role that includes managing the Communications team and Advice and Information team, building Gingerbread’s profile and brand, supporting our digital strategy and the growth of our national advice and information services for single parents.

As a member of Senior Management Team, you will contribute to the overall strategy and leadership of the organisation.

The person

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of social policy achievement and will be a passionate and persuasive communicator.  The candidate will be able to represent the organisation externally, and be adept at building strong relationships and networks. S/he will have sound strategic planning skills and the people skills to build and develop a strong team. Commitment to the aims of Gingerbread is essential.
