Communications Officer

Gingerbread is the national charity working with single parent families. Since 1918 we’ve been supporting, advising and campaigning with single parents to help them meet their family’s needs and achieve their goals. Whatever success means to a single parent – a healthy family, a flexible job, stable finances, or a chance to study – we work with them to make it happen.

The role

As Communications Officer, you will join a high performing team in a diverse, fast paced role delivering strategic marketing and messaging both externally and internally for Gingerbread. This is a key post, and you will work with colleagues across the organisation to achieve our aims and deliver change for the UK’s two million single parents.

You will be joining the communications team at an exciting moment – we are embarking on a new three-year strategy, including refreshed branding and social media and content plans, and starting development of Gingerbread’s centenary celebrations.

The person

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering communications and marketing campaigns, and will ideally be familiar with content publishing, social media and branding. The candidate will have strong writing and editing skills and be an effective communicator and team player. Commitment to the aims of Gingerbread is essential.

Policy Officer

£35,618 per annum

Gingerbread is the national charity working with single parent families. We campaign against the poverty, disadvantage and stigma that the UK’s 2million single parents face. We already have a strong track record of policy achievements on issues from child maintenance to childcare and are highly regarded across government and the wider charity sector.

The development of policy across a broad range of areas from welfare to work to benefits sanctions and the importance of flexible working is essential to our mission to achieve positive change for single parents.

The role

As Policy Officer, you will join a high performing policy and research team which produces high profile reports which inform Select Committees, government policy making and the development of legislation. This is a key role and you will personally develop relationships with charity sector partners, politicians and other decision makers.

The person

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of policy development and will ideally be familiar with welfare to work and other the policy areas affecting single parents. The candidate will have a strong drafting style and be an effective communicator and team player. Commitment to the aims of Gingerbread is essential.
