Human Resources Officer

Gingerbread is seeking an HR Officer to support all aspects of its HR function.  

We are the national charity for single parent families, providing expert advice, practical support, and campaigning.  As we embark on a new 3 year strategy, we have ambitious plans to grow our reach and increase our campaigning, to support more of the UK’s two million single parents. We want to see a society where single parent families are valued and treated equally and fairly.  

The role


The HR Officer will provide comprehensive, effective and efficient support to HR processes throughout Gingerbread; acting as the first point of contact for staff and volunteers. The HR Officer will be responsible for maintaining files and databases, issuing documentation and liaising across the organisation on HR matters.

The person

You will have a recognised HR qualification or be studying towards one, with experience of working in HR, preferably in the charity sector. You should have knowledge of employment law and a genuine interest in HR issues and best practice.

Head of Human Resources

The role

The Head of HR will lead on people strategy ensuring Gingerbread has the people and resources we need to deliver our strategy and plans. The postholder will work closely with the Senior Management Team making a real impact on the charity through people management solutions, with current focus on quality improvement, staff and management development, staff engagement, change management and quality processes.  This is a wide-ranging role with the opportunity to get involved in all areas of HR.

The person

You will have excellent knowledge of employment law and HR best practice, and a good track record of success in analysing information and applying practical HR solutions in a busy organisation.  We’re looking for an HR professional with excellent communication skills, who can build relationships across the organisation, advising, coaching and developing others.  You will have excellent planning and project management skills, able to lead cross-team projects to deliver results, and be comfortable working strategically and operationally.

Gingerbread is the national charity working with single parent families. Since 1918 we’ve been supporting, advising and campaigning with single parents to help them meet their family’s needs and achieve their goals. Whatever success means to a single parent – a healthy family, a flexible job, stable finances, or a chance to study – we work with them to make it happen.

The role

As Communications Officer, you will join a high performing team in a diverse, fast paced role delivering strategic marketing and messaging both externally and internally for Gingerbread. This is a key post, and you will work with colleagues across the organisation to achieve our aims and deliver change for the UK’s two million single parents.

You will be joining the communications team at an exciting moment – we are embarking on a new three-year strategy, including refreshed branding and social media and content plans, and starting development of Gingerbread’s centenary celebrations.

The person

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering communications and marketing campaigns, and will ideally be familiar with content publishing, social media and branding. The candidate will have strong writing and editing skills and be an effective communicator and team player. Commitment to the aims of Gingerbread is essential.
