Our Vice Presidents
Our Vice Presidents help to shape the work we do and support our charitable aims.
In addition to enjoying great success as a journalist and author, Celia served as a National Council for One Parent Families trustee for 13 years and became a vice president in 2006. She is currently reader in creative writing at Brunel University. Celia is a single parent.
Having raised her family, Amanda trained as a social worker, spending much of her career as a court welfare officer. Amanda has a long and committed involvement in charitable work, where she has a range of interests. Amanda joined the board of trustees for the National Council for One Parent Families in 1995, becoming vice chair in 2002 and a vice president in 2006.
A former trustee and treasurer of the National Council for One Parent Families, Graham became a vice president in 1998. He is the son of a single mother. Graham is group human resources director at Yattendon Investment Trust.
His honour judge Stephen Lloyd (retired)
Stephen’s involvement with the National Council for One Parent Families spans more than 30 years. He was chair of the board of trustees, as well as other roles. Stephen became a vice president in 1995.
Catherine Porteous CBE
Catherine, a former art historian, has a long history of support for the National Council for One Parent Families, including being chair of the board of trustees. Catherine became a vice president in 1990. She is a former trustee of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Sue Slipman OBE
The first female president of the National Union of Students, Sue has enjoyed a formidable range of roles in both the private and public sector. She is now director of the Foundation Trust Network, NHS Confederation. Sue is also a former chief executive of One Parent Families and has been a vice president since 2000.
Marina Warner DBE
A writer of fiction, criticism and history Marina’s works include novels and short stories as well as studies of myths, symbols, and fairytales. She is professor in the department of literature, drama and visual studies at Essex University. Marina is a former trustee of the National Council for One Parent Families and she became a vice president in 2000.
Andreas Whittam Smith CBE
A distinguished financial journalist, and founding editor of The Independent, Andreas is a former trustee and treasurer of the National Council for One Parent Families. He became a vice president in 1991.
