Sessional Advice Worker
£21 – £23 per hour
Kentish Town, London

The provision of advice to single parents is at the heart of what Gingerbread does. In the current economic climate, our ability to offer expert, independent and reliable advice is more important than ever.

We are looking for an experienced advice worker to join our team providing sessional hours on our national telephone helpline. You will provide one-off multi-subject advice to single parents on a range of issues including dealing with a break-up, going back to work, child maintenance, contact and benefit or tax credit issues.

Why work for us

Gingerbread is the leading national charity working with single parent families. In this role, you will be joining Gingerbread at an exciting time, having recently celebrated our 100th year, a new three-year strategy and a strong fundraising focus, supported by Gingerbread’s CEO and Board of Trustees.

Single parents make up about a quarter of all families with children. Despite the positive changes achieved over the past 100 years, inequality and disadvantage still stand in the way of single parents providing their families with the security they deserve and the opportunities to flourish.  Our mission is to champion and enable single parent families to live secure, fulfilling and happy lives.

About you

We are looking for someone with substantial recent experience of working as an adviser and a thorough knowledge of welfare benefits, tax credits and Universal Credit along with experience of carrying out complex benefit calculations in a fast paced environment.

We are willing to provide some training on the other areas we advise on, such as family law and child maintenance.
