Helpline Adviser

Kentish Town, London

Helpline Adviser (Full-time)
£26,820 – £30,795
Kentish Town, London

We are looking for an experienced adviser to join our team in delivering advice to single parents across England and Wales on the Gingerbread freephone helpline. You will provide telephone and online advice to single parents on a range of issues including dealing with a break-up, going back to work and sorting out child maintenance, contact and benefit or tax credit issues.

Why work for us

Gingerbread is the leading national charity working with single parent families. In this role, you will be joining Gingerbread at an exciting time, having recently celebrated our 100th year, a new three-year strategy and a strong fundraising focus, supported by Gingerbread’s CEO and Board of Trustees.

Single parents make up about a quarter of all families with children. Despite the positive changes achieved over the past 100 years, inequality and disadvantage still stand in the way of single parents providing their families with the security they deserve and the opportunities to flourish.  Our mission is to champion and enable single parent families to live secure, fulfilling and happy lives.

About you

We are looking for someone with a minimum of two years’ recent experience of working as an adviser, with a good knowledge of welfare benefits, tax credits and welfare reform. Training can be provided in other relevant advice areas. You must be a quick learner and an excellent communicator with the ability to work in a sometimes pressured helpline environment, and have a passion for helping single parents.

You will be well-supported through our systems for staff development and supervision. Working alongside your Advice and Information colleagues, including more senior advice workers, you will have the opportunity to learn in depth advice skills and grow in your knowledge.
