The Big Give Christmas Campaign
The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign. With the generosity of our supporters and the Monday Charitable Trust, every donation made from today to 7th December will be doubled. That means for every £1 donated, we will receive £2 towards our services, up to £20,000.
Your donation could support single parents like Amy*:
I became a single parent when my daughter was three. It was an abusive relationship. He attacked me twice in front of my daughter, the second time it happened was when I got the strength to finally leave.
We broke up at the start of 2019. I lived over an hour away from family and in a new area where I didn’t have many friends. I was already feeling isolated and then the first Covid lockdown happened. I was a keyworker and working all hours whilst trying to balance being a good mother.
Gingerbread helped me understand how to apply for child maintenance and helped me feel less alone.
My first Christmas as a single parent felt strange as there wasn’t anyone around to open presents with, but at the same time it was a nicer experience after the challenges I had experienced in the relationship. My daughter and I had lots of fun playing in the morning and then we went off to see family for Christmas lunch. Christmas as a single parent can feel lonely but for me it is very much about embracing the excitement of your children and having that precious time together.
