Priced out: the impact of child maintenance charging

Published on 18 November 2011

When the government published the CSA’s Top Ten Excuses, Gingerbread pointed out that it undermines the government’s case for charges. Gingerbread is keeping up the pressure and we are still fighting hard to stop single parents having to pay to use the CSA.

Key findings

The government is proposing child maintenance reforms which would result in charges on single parents to use the statutory system.

This briefing highlights new survey data which shows that:

  • 46% of single parents using the CSA say they will not be able to afford the proposed fees
  • 72% of these parents say they will have to go without any child maintenance.
