    Hi everyone,

I’m just in the process of divorcing.  I am looking at trying to claim Working Family Tax Credit.  I work two days 9-5 but we get 30 min lunch break.  So although I am at work 16 hours my contract is only 15 hours per week.  I know people who claim working the same pattern as me but I don’t want to do anything ‘dodgy’.  Anyone know the answer to this.  My child has a disability so as a single parent I don’t really want to increase my hours if possible.

Why don’t you ask your employer this question?

If you don’t get paid for your break then it would be classed as 15 hours. If you claimed universal credit there is no minimum hours you need to work. It might be best to speak to someone at working tax credits to see if you can still claim.
