I am just looking for advice if possible.

I am a single dad and have had a pretty rough time lately as I am sure plenty of us on here have.

I am at a low point in my life and trying to do better things. Before my son was born, I was working approx 80 hours per week as a farmer. I am now currently not working as up until recently I have been the sole parent for my son due to family issues. As it stands now my son is with his mum on Thursdays and Fridays so I’m looking for something I can do to generate some more income.

I have been looking into part time jobs but I’m struggling to find anything for those set days. Obviously I claim benefits at the moment so I also can’t afford to end up worse off. I’ve looked into all sorts from part time jobs, self employed, working from home and making or buying and selling but I’m struggling to come up with an ideal option that I can actually make work.

What do you guys do and what difference has it made to your income?

    Thanks, Billy

Unfortunately it wasn’t my familys farm.

I have been trying for the last 6 months to do farming just over those two days but it’s proving very difficult, I set up as a relief milker/tractor driver but people where either offering a few weeks full work which I obviously can’t do or I’d get a day’s work and then nothing for weeks.

My son is two so he now does 16 hours in nursery over two days

I don’t have 4 days, he goes to nursery on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30-3:30 so by the time I’d got to work from there I would only have a few hours on a Tuesday before I had to leave to pick him up again. Thursdays and Fridays he’s with his mum anyway so they are the only two full days I have.

I’d be willing to do something different definitely. I’d do most jobs at the moment but it’s just proving difficult to find something just for two specific days. The jobs are definitely out there as other single parents manage, it’s just finding them which is why I was looking for ideas really as I’m struggling but I need to get out of the house.

I’m in an area where I am completely secluded, I have literally no friends and my family live hours away so other childcare isn’t an option unfortunately

I could possibly switch a Tuesday so that his mum picked him up from nursery if needed.

I’m definitely going to stay in touch with farming as that is the job that I absolutely love .However I don’t think that it is going to be a reasonable option for me to do at the moment so I need something to fill the gap to give me an extra income and most importantly get me out of the house.

I’m in Telford, I know there are a few agencies around here that I am going to register with and see if that brings anything
