We pay through PAYE income tax and national insurance into a system,a system that provides for us when needed,so we would think. My wife died in april 2016,when called into the job centre in september 2016 to be questioned about my circumstances,they were informed of her death and that I had sole parental responsibility. I was not informed by the job centre about widowed parents allowance which in actual fact pays more than income support and carers allowance together.In august 2017 through a private conversation I was made aware of this particular benefit.I applied and explained that I had not been informed by the job centre.I have been given the benefit now january 2018,backdated only to august 2017. I have now written a letter requesting it be backdated to when I was eligible for that benefit,which I was not informed about.Fair is fair,you pay in and you are entitled to the correct benefit from the correct time. I thought I would share this with you in case anyone else is unaware.
