So in october 2017 i started my degree at uni, which requires me to have a work placement which i have and do it for 12 hours a week over 2 days which is UNPAID.

i also work a PAID retail job in school hours which i’m having to drop to 2 days a week, which will also be 12 hours a week, because my work load is so heavy. i currently claim working tax credits and housing benefit. but no one seems to be able to inform me what i have to change it too? is it universal credits? which is active in my area. i dont know what to do and when i phone tax credits they were no help and told me to phone universal credits who told me they cant speak to me until i apply… and citizens advice arent able to help either. im at a loss now.

surely i cant be the only parent in this position? i have claimed the full amount on student finance too.

i’m also a single parent of one child, with no support from the father in any way. he has not been seen for most of my childs life.

Does anyone else know anything on this at all please?

    Muchly appreciated

    xxx
