Hi I am confused as to whether I will be financially better off working 18 hours a week or 15 hours a week. I’m a single parent with a 13yr old child.

I currently workless than 16hrs and get housing/C Tax benefit and free school meals, free dentist etc but 18 hrs would entitle me to Working Tax Credit .

I appreciate you loose the school meals and free NHS treatment if I claim Working Tax Credit but do you still get housing /Council Tax help?

Any advice is really appreciated THANK YOU 😊

16 hours is the least amount of hours you can work to claim both working tax credit and child tax credit. I work 16 hours a week and get child and working tax credit… it’s the best way to do it financially as any hours over 16hours a week the amount of C/W tax credit you get reduces.
