Hi. My sister’s mate and I had a child together, who is now 7 weeks old. We are no longer a couple, and indeed have never lived together. The plan was that when she went back to work, I look after the baby at mine because I was self employed and worked from home. The pandemic has put paid to my business, however, and so I had to go on universal credit. Two questions. Firstly, if I look after the child do I still have to be looking for work or can i act as a single parent (I already have the baby most days and nights, to be honest). Secondly, for a twist in the tale, the mother has to move out of her place and has talked about moving in with my sister. That’s actually find by me, but I’ve put her off the idea because I think universal credit will think that a bit iffy. Am I wrong?
