I applied for UC on 16th of December 2020 and still didn’t get any support money.

I’m single mother with depression who has escaped from abusive relationship.

What can I do to get government support? Or UK do not support single parents in need if they are EU citizens?

My baby is 1 year old and I have settled status so I don’t understand what is the problem?

They told me that they can’t give me any money because they make a check on me. I thought check takes 5 weeks but no. It’s been more then 2 month.

    Help me some body please.

That is quite along time, have you called them up again to get info about it?  There are crisis loans that are repaid from your benefit once you get it.  Perhaps you could see if you apply for this (if you are needing £ although you don’t say that this is the case.)

I would hassle them and explain your situation.  Hope something comes through for you soon

I’ve been calling and txt in my journal on UC account.

They give me number for emergency food for people in crisis with kind regards.

That was all help I got.

    Hi MargaritaK

I’m Michelle one of the Moderators here in the forum. It sounds like things are extremely difficult for you right now.  I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through this.  It may help to give our Helpline a call.  They may be able to help guide you towards options that could help.

If you’re unable to make a call, there is a webchat on a Wednesday morning, but it is worth noting that demand for that service can be high.  Here are the contact details for the Single Parent Helpline:

    Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline – Freephone 0808 802 0925

    Opening hours:  Mon 10 – 6, Tues 10- 4, Wed 10 – 1 & 5 – 7, Thurs 10 – 4, Fri 10 – 4  They can be busy so callers can expect to wait up to 20 minutes before the call is answered

And here’s a link to some information about the webchat service.

    Webchat – Gingerbread

I hope that information might help a little

    Warm regards
