    Help!

I am looking to start a PGCE/QTS course in 2022 to train to become a Primary School teacher after having a very tricky year of trying to cover school holidays as a single parent. The dream being that as a teacher my daughter and I will have the same time off whilst she is in full time education.

The course is a year long and will be full time so as far as I can tell, I would need to quit my current job. It looks as though I’ll be able to get funding for the course fees as well as a maintainance grant, but it would still see me short by quite a bit financially.

I am looking for some advice on funding or loans that are available for parents looking to study in later life?

Hey, sorry I’m not able to help at all with finding or loans, but as a fellow teacher who is also a single parent you will love it. It’s not always easy and lots of additional work is done at home but the hours are fab to work around your family. I love my job, and hope you do too.. congratulations, and wishing you all the best x

Hey, another single mum/teacher here. I did my training way before I had a child. But when I was on maternity I was able to claim universal credit to top up my wage. Have you checked if you are entitled to anything? I think there is a tool on this website you can use to check. Or just search benefits calculator. Good luck, it’s a great job to have as a parent. Challenging but rewarding.
