hi , I am a single mum to three girls – as much as I love them I’ve been finding it a constant struggle . Trips to the doctors just resulted in contstanly givin me more pills – I started to self medicate with alcohol which really got out of hand and and resulted in a overdose a couple of days ago . I recieved medical attention and have been referred to various agencies for help .
Really I’m just wondering if anyone has been through something similar and if there’s light at the end of the tunnel
Sorry you’re having a tough time at the mo. Everyone needs a break, some time to switch off and I’m conscious that you likely know that the answer is not in the bottom of a bottle in changing your situation. With regards to the GP, unless you have a really good rapport with your GP and feel able to be honest and listened to, then I would make your next review (or sooner) with an ANP (Advanced nurse practitioner) within the surgery. These nurses have the benefit of being able to prescribe but with the added nurturing ‘holistic approach’ to care and often can signpost to support that come under the ‘social’ umbrella. Most practices now also have access to social prescribers. These people are worth their weight in gold and often provide support to people having a difficult time so you get consistent support for the duration. Give your surgery a call and book in with the ANPs and ask about social prescribng. Hope you get some support
