I am a theatre nurse redeployed to ITU. I have a 15 year old and an 8 year old. My Ex lives with elderly Mother. Due to previous domestic violence and child assault charges against 15 year old my Ex not allowed in family home. My issue is no childcare and enforced repeated exposure to covid 19 at work. 8 year old has been going to school then to ex and his mother but not ideal as She is meant to be shielding. Daily risk of me bringing virus home and passing it around kids, school, ex and his Mother. School is now closed until April 20th and may not open after then! Work can only offer unpaid leave, no furlough option for nurses. I can’t afford that or afford childminder. All previous anxiety and depression from DV has come back. Feel like I’m having a breakdown. I self certified myself sick for a week and waiting to speak to GP. I feel guilty as work need me but so do children. Anyone in similar situation that can help?

If it was me I would get a sick certificate andook after yourself and children. We are not all martyrs and you have got to put your kids first as they need you the most. You can see how the week goes and decide what you should do. Good luck xxx

    Hi Makefy

    That is quite a situation!

Firstly thank you for all the work you have already done in ITU – utterly amazing!!

I’d suggest a conversation with your employer probably if you have not already done this.

My view is as follows, (but I am not an expert) It is likely to be long term situation so, as there is no school hub open for you (which there should be for such an important key worker) you will probably have to stay home over the Easter Holidays. After that you will be back to carry on making a fabulous contribution to the Corona fight.

    Very best wishes

    Becky x
