Hi, I’m hoping someone can help, I have a 5-week old son and from 10 weeks pregnant my ex informed me he wanted nothing to do with him, he told me (through text he wouldn’t talk face to face) not to have him. He has not made any form of contact since then.
What I’m wanting to know is if I try for csa would this make any benefits I was entitled to less? or is it extra?
I really don’t want to claim csa as if he wants nothing to do with my son I don’t want to force it. However, I have willingly given up a very well paid job to look after and raise my son and it worries me the experiences he will miss out on simply because I can’t afford them.
I understand why you wouldn’t want to take his money, I wanted to tell my ex to keep every begrudged penny. But it isn’t really yours to reject. The money is for your son and at some point he will need it unless you win the lottery.
I’m not sure if it affects other benefits. I’m sure someone will be along shortly who knows.
Thanks for your reply Kathy – does your ex get access to your son? I’m wondering if I go for payments he will want to try for access out of spite . I would love him to see my son but because he wanted to not out of spite.
