I am a 61 year old Dad. Disabled and have full time custody of my 13 year old boy. At 1 year old he became the subject of a shared care order. 5:2 Mum to Dad. Very early on he was more in my care through mutual arrangement. I wanted him to be with me as he did so never refused. Mum was “busy”.
At 11 years old he begun to have problems with being with Mum. Assaulted and cruelly treated. Cafcass involved, Police involved, solicitors and courts subsequently deciding he should live with me permanently for his own welfare. All at his behest. We are very happy stable and settled. I actively encourage him to contact Mum but he will not.
Introduction over I am now in the position whereby I cannot financially make ends meet. Yes I have the benefits associated with my Disability and with having my son. But no contribution from his Mum. I asked during custody hearings but was ignored. I am still trying to pay solicitors bills but need help financially from his Mum. She has a successful business and owns land and property abroad and could help to take responsibility. My issue is I cannot afford to engage someone to help me. Reaching out for advice and help. Thank you.
if it was the other way round, you would be paying monthly child maintenance to your ex. You can try make contact with her to make private arrangement. If she’s not interested then What I would suggest is you contact Child Maintenance serviceand pay £20 fee to sign up. They take over and will work out what she needs to pay.
Contact Child Maintenance Options before you apply.
They’ll discuss your maintenance arrangements with you, give you a reference number and explain how to apply.
