    Hi

This is my first time posting.  I am about to become a single parent . I have 2 children aged 6 and 10. I  currently work as bank staff, so I am on basically a 0 hours contract. I  have never claimed any benefits and don’t understand how Universal Credit would work for me, although I already know that I won’t be able to manage financially on my own unless I can get a little help.

Is anyone in a similar situation that can possibly give some advice? I’ve tried using benefits calculators but they tell me that unless I’m bringing in my working wage, I’m entitled to nothing!

    Hi Redrose72

It sounds like this is a daunting time for you.  A way of finding out what you are entitled too is to speak to one of our helpline advisers on our single parent helpline.  They will be able to help you to explore the options that are available.  They do get busy, so grab yourself a cup of tea whilst you are waiting for your call to be answered.  All calls will be free.

    Justine
