hi, so I have to self isolate for 7 days as I have a cough, but my son who is 6 has to self isolate for 14 days, my employer is saying I will owe them the extra 7 days that I will have to take off work. I don’t see how this is fair when I’m a single parent and there is no one else who can look after him as he is self isolating. Does anyone know if it’s right?
Don’t think this is right, Try nhs inform or .gov as I’m sure I read if you’re caring for someone you’re entitled to the time off. Would also assume it could be treated at discrimination, as you’re being untreated unfairly due to being a single parent
That is completely wrong of your employer. you are entitled to 14 days or more , this in itself a big service to the community and our country. If your employer insist on that, then ask them to give it in writing. I bet they won’t.
You are protected under the government scheme to get 80 % of your monthly wage as a sole parent and as your child depends on you as schools are closed and you have symptoms the best thing to do is contact your employer and tell them you need time off on the plan put in place to help the sick and unemployed also you can claim universal credit in the meantime they loan you money until you get your 80 % in June plus your paid this benefit in arrears even if you are self employed hope this helps you
