    Hi I am Andrea

I am pregnant 22weeks and my ex partner wants me to leave the flat ASAP everytime we argue sometimes it went too far when he really kicked me out and so many times I end up on the street and begging him to stay at his place until I got mine.

It’s gone worse couple of days ago he wants me to leave again which I am trying to get a place from the council since I have no family in the uk. I read articles about housing I  the uk ( specifically wandsworth area) and it’s really worse and some of kids being taken by social services because some mother being stressed out in council house.

My ex partner said to me to go back to my country and he will give fully support but I am afraid he can just disappear when things doesn’t go on his way  the other side i am so afraid to be a single mother living in housing ( this is going to be my first born) even some mothers wait for years to get a place and keep moving from 1 emergency housing to the other.

Is there any possibility to be a single mother and get a normal life ( not living under poverty) because I have no idea how to survive here.

    Please I need advice urgently.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi AndreaM30

I’m Michelle one of the Moderators here.  This sounds extremely unsettling.  I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through this.  We would usually recommend that you let your midwife and your GP know what is happening, and you could get in touch with Shelter.  They should be able to guide you through your options and explain how emergency accommodation works.  Here’s a link to their service:

Shelter –  Expert Housing Advice. Contact expert housing advisers either online, or by calling the free national emergency helpline or your local service team. 0808 800 4444  https://england.shelter.org.uk/get_help

You’ll also find some guidance around housing and homelessness in the information pages within this site:

    Homelessness – Gingerbread

You may also be able to receive some guidance via the Single Parents Helpline:

    Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline – Freephone 0808 802 0925

    Opening hours:  Mon 10 – 6, Tues 10- 4, Wed 10 – 1 & 5 – 7, Thurs 10 – 4, Fri 10 – 4  They can be busy so callers can expect to wait up to 20 minutes before the call is answered

I hope that will help a little

    Take care

    Michelle
