    Hi everyone.

I have two kids (3 and 5) and have them 6 nights out of 14. Their mum has them the other 8 nights.

Because of that, she gets all Universal Credit and child benefit which works out to be roughly £600 a month. We both break even before this amount.

In theory should some of that money come my way? Am I right in thinking that, legally, it doesn’t work like that ie the main carer gets all the money even if they only have the kids 50.1% of the time?

Thank you all for any help

I spoke to citizens advice as I have two kids half the time and they told me in those situations one parent would claim for one child so it’s all equal but my ex claimed everything for both and I dont think I’m seeing a penny of that money so I’m in a similar boat and would be interested to hear the answer to this one
