Do you know what? When I was a kid I just loved playing with my friends every day and going to bed later. It’s a holiday by virtue of getting to do what you want and not having to go to school. Imagine you having six weeks off work just to meet your mates and do little jobs around the house, watch DVDs etc. Yeah, a holiday is nice, but if you don’t have the money, you accept that the change of routine is a holiday. Try and go for a little treat day here and there if you can. Source local single parent groups and see if they have plans. Locally there are half day groups exploring woods with an expert on wildlife, there are playgroups, etc. These usually only cost £1 and keep them busy for three hours. Local libraries have details of events also. Make sure you get some time with them – don’t just palm them off. Go for a simple picnic if nothing else.
