I’m about to move out and start privately renting with my little boy. I’m a full time student but I’m aware I should be entitled to the housing part of Universal Credit on top of my student maintenance loan. I’m just trying to figure out costs and budget! I think I will be able to afford rent and bills but wanted advice from anyone in the same/similar situation about how they manage. Is it worth getting a part time job?
Gingerbread helpline may be able to help give you some advice, help and support on this matter so might be worth giving them a call. They help with all things single parent related including financial matters. Hope this helps and stay safe
I am a singe parent to 3 (eldest has now moved out) and on my second degree! I have not worked as I wanted a decent home/study/mom balance. I loved every minute of it and have not struggled financially at all. However, I have met many single parent students who have. It’s all about money management and being careful. Get your education and be a super mom, you can do this! Exciting times ahead! Good luck!
