    Hello,

I’m sure you get a lot of the same questions so I apologise in advance if this topic has already been discussed.

I’m currently in the early stages of pregnancy with a due date of 15th December. At the moment I work full time and live in a house share in Bristol.

When my tenancy is due for renewal in September I will no longer be able to stay in my current housing due to having a baby. Prices in Bristol for a 1/2 bed apartment are around £650 – which will be the full amount of my maternity pay when the baby comes.

I have looked at online benefits calculators but everything says I won’t be entitled to claim for any financial help when the baby arrives, including housing support. Is this right?

As it stands I feel financially pushed into a corner to have a termination when it is something I don’t want to do. But if my rent and bills is more than my maternity pay and I have no help from the state I’m worried I’ll have no other option.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Jody

    Hi Jody,

Advisers on our single parent helpline would be able to help you to assess your entitlements to financial support when you have a baby on your own. Before you take any further steps, I’d recommend giving them a call. You can find details including opening hours and the phone number here: https://www.gingerbread.org.uk/what-we-do/contact-us/helpline/

    Best wishes,
    Faye from Gingerbread
