I am facing a challenge and can’t seem to find a way around it.
My partner and I broke up 6 years ago and whilst parenting of our son was meant to be shared 50/50 it quickly became 99/1 with my son living with me full time as my ex partner showed little interest. As of today my son’s mother has not seen him in nearly 4 years.
My son and I would very much like to go on holiday abroad but are facing difficulties in obtaining a passport for him. Due to the year he was born his mother has parental responsibility by right and I have it through being named on the birth certificate. When I tried to apply for his passport I was advised that we required a copy of his mothers birth certificate.
I have applied for a copy of the birth certificate through the General Registrar but they could not find her under the name and date of birth she had provided. I appreciate the obvious answer would seem to be to ask her for a copy but we don’t know where she is!! (if I am being totally honest, I don’t really want to find her – my son has no desire to see her and I am concerned she would refuse to provide it out of spite)
I cannot be the first person to ever have this problem so there must be a solution. Can anyone offer any advice?
