I’m living with a relative at the moment with my little one who’s 6 months and I’m a single mum. I’m in a fairly good paid job but I’m planning on applying for a new job with less pay but still good. This new job is hours away and I’d have to get my own place. My question is does anyone know if I’d get any help towards furnishing the new place? I’m not on any benefits but I don’t have enough put back to furnish an entire house. I live in Scotland if that’s any different as I know it can make a difference. Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks 🙂

You can get help for a cooker or washing machine, but loans that need to be paid back.

I’d look at freecycle and local council refurbishment schemes first, to avoid getting in to debt. Put the word around your friends/family that you are looking for a dining table or a single bed etc.  It’s amazing what people have in store that they are happy to offload.

I placed an advert and within days my tumbr dryer, dining table  sofa and bed were collected. I was downsizing and people took it. Also try gum tree as well as free cycle. Shame you are not in London as I have a lovely arm chair and wardrobe that I’m trying to get rid of.i would also visit up cycle furniture shop. Try the British heart foundation as they do hour clearances!!

put a post on the local gumtree or neighbourhood  / next door forum and just ask.. you will be surprised how helpful people are..  they may even deliver for free if you don’t have a car.
