So my husband literally this morning packed some stuff and upped and left me and my 2 girls. We are private renters but he was the breadwinner and I am actually crapping my pants about what I’m going to do next. I need a house and I need financial support but I don’t know where to start!

Is it definitely over? Maybe you could talk to him before you do anything else. Apply for universal credit online, this will give you money to survive and should pay for at least some of your rent. You can apply for help towards your council tax too. The applications are long and complicated but also necessary. Hope you get it sorted out quickly.

Agree, apply for govt benefits, tell your family and friends that you need help and support. Tell your mortgage provider if you have one. Food banks will always help. Speak to samaratins for next steps advice

Yes it’s definitely over, he finally had the balls to talk to our eldest today over the phone and answer her questions and he was telling Her there were loads of things wrong in the relationship and effectively laying the blame at my feet. He never spoke to me about issues he had with me or the relationship or that he was unhappy. Nothing. He just planned with his mother to leave me, and he did. I’ve applied to universal credit and I’ve contacted housing association. I actually can’t believe this is happening

Sorry to hear that. My ex did something similar. We had an argument one day, he walked out and never came back, didn’t say a word to the kids. He’d been having an affair and planning it for months ( I’m not in any way suggesting that this is the same for you).

It’s so difficult and you probably don’t know how you’ll get through it but you will and it definitely does get easier. Put all of your effort into being the best mum you can and take one day at a time.
