I’m in Romania this week but when I get back it would be great to set something up. I will speak to the group coordinator (Justine) at some point next week and get back to you and everyone else here.
All the best

Its really easy to start a Gingerbread group. All you have to do is register your interest online then we’ll send you through the information you will need. We require two references and will do a DBS check, but we will take you through that process.
Here is the link and I look forward to seeing your application come through.
Best wishes, Justine30 October 2019 at 1:52 pm #32211
Hi Mark, HI Jorgie,
Thank you both for your messages
Mark, I hope you are enjoying your time in Romania.
Jorgie I understand things get pretty hectic around here too.
hope you both enjoy the rest of the half term.30 October 2019 at 10:28 pm #32253
It’s great to see this bit of recent activity in the forum from single parents in Somerset, and possibly starting a group!
I moved, with my young son, to Street the end of 2017, after being in London 18 yrs (!!) I did my time there ! and now I’m enjoying the rolling countryside, cycles of nature and less hectic pace of life in the SW (I make no apology for clichés)
I’ve chosen to be on my own with my son since he was born, with no support, financial or otherwise, from his father or my own family, but somehow kind souls have appeared along the way to support us in small and big ways. It’s also been quite a tough time for me as I found I had breast cancer this time last year, and it’s been a journey.. ( is this an overshare?! so easy to open up in the quiet and isolation of a child-free, night-time environment! Just as well I haven’t had a glass of vino..!! It’s the lack of folks around to share thoughts with that I find so challenging, great that there are sites like these, and The Samaritans are amazing, as you said, Jorgie).
My health is growing better now and I’m counting my blessings, mainly the one in the shape of a 7 year old cheeky, smiley boy <3
I’d be happy to help in the organizing of a group if that helps?

!!!! AWESOME !!! Well Done 😀
I’m pretty new to Somerset, me and my 7 yr old son moved to Street 2 yrs ago. Bit more mellow than London!

Thanks Melissa, in all honesty I should of made the effort years ago (I’ve been on the forums for around 10 years I think).
Hopefully the process will be quick as I’ve already got an enhanced CRB check which Gingerbread can see online once I give them the details.

You’ve done it now, that’s so totally the main thing!!!! Don’t think anyone would grumble about ‘how long it’s taken’, quite the opposite I imagine!
Btw, I also have a recent CRB (they’ve been helpfully renamed DBS now though!) in case that helps with any admin.6 November 2019 at 9:54 pm #32633
Sorry, I’ve been getting checked out for years for work so still think of it as it as a CRB. The change is good though as they now continually update it and if anybody needs to see it you can give them a code and they can instantly check it rather than having going through the lengthy process each time.7 November 2019 at 7:45 am #32641
Don’t worry about how long it took, we are all very grateful that you have offered to set one up for us Somerset folk. 🙂.
