Divorced last year, one daughter who is nine. We’re both from and living in Europe.

Right now we share custody every other week.

My ex wife has met “the love of her life” and is moving to the US to be with him. What do I tell my daughter when she asks why we didn’t go with her? What do I tell her when she asks why her mom left her here?

I think the only thing you can do is put the most positive spin you can.

Say that her mum is going on a big adventure to the US. That she’ll be able to FaceTime her whenever she wants, that she’ll be able to go and stay with her once her mum is settled.

you don’t know how things will turn out. Her mum may not like it, she may come home after a short time. All you can do is reassure her and be her source of stability and love.

    That helps, thank you.
