Do you have court ordered access? Or is it an informal agreement between you & your ex?

Generally, as long as there are no safeguarding issues, where you go in your time with your child is up to you. As long as it’s in the UK, you don’t need permission.

what are your ex’s objections? Can you answer any specific concerns?

Unless a court has ordered specific limited contact or there are safeguarding issues, then your ex cannot dictate who sees the child. However, often some resident parents feel that the priority should be child and father time, not extended family, but if there’s a balance I don’t believe this is a valid argument. Of course this is based on the distance in travel between the child and your family being reasonable distance for the age of the time and length of contact.
