    Hi there

I’ve been separated from my sons dad for almost 10 years. As we were never married  I was never entitled to anything legally and was unable to buy him out of our family home.

We originally had an informal arrangement regarding maintenance until I discovered he was lying about his income.

he has had a lodger who pays his mortgage which undeclared on his income and difficult to prove. I wonder if anyone has used a forensic accountant before and if it’s worth using my savings to have my ex’s finances delved into.

If the lodger is the only source of undeclared income, I would recommend you don’t bother with hiring a forensic accountant. These professionals don’t work for minimum wage! Unless there are corporate assets and/or other significants investments, and you have access to records for at least some of them, you’ll be wasting your time and money.
