    Hi all

I’m hoping someone who may have been in a similar position can advise me.

I currently work part time and recieve universal credits – my nana not so long ago sadly passed away and my dad has just informed me that she has left me some money as well as my son.

I know when you apply for benefits you are asked about savings etc and there is a 6k limit. I don’t have any savings at present but once I recieve my inheritance I will then have a total of 10k in my bank account.

Ive looked at the change of circumstances section on the Gov website and there is no information about reporting an inheritance or anything at all on the website itself which I find very frustrating.

Does anyone know if this money will automatically be classed as income and therefore I will use this to live on rather than recieve any benefit support until it runs out?

If anyone could send be a link with information this would be much appreciated or even tell me about a similar experience they may have gone through.

    Thank you

I would go and open a bank account under your son name and stick money in there.
