Well, what is his plan? Seems to me he can go into further education, work, or go travelling (if he can afford to). Sitting around at home waiting for inspiration isn’t an option. An apprenticeship is basically mixing education with work, if he can get a place. If he doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life, at least take any job – it often helps to narrow down what he doesn’t want to do. I would have thought that at 16 he ought to be considering A levels and maybe a p/t job to keep open as many options as possible and have some money for socialising and contributing to the household?
