I work 17hrs a week, i am a single parent and really struggling to make ends meet when i pay for aftercare (every wednesdays my daughter attends) and holiday clubs (whole holiday full days). I do try save but not always easy when having to pay for school trips or new uniform and so on. My daughter is 6, i dont have family close by who can watch my child or friends. I was wondering does anyone get help with the cost of aftercare/holiday clubs?
I’m a single mum. I work full time and my son goes to holidayclub and afterschool club.
The govt childcare account will pay up to 20% of childcare fees (basically paying back tax on earnings) up to a certain level.
Other than that, I have a friend in the same situation and we swap childcare for each other sometimes. Have you tried talking to other mums, trading Friday & Saturday evening babysitting for afterschool care?
No they work during the hrs i would need them to watch her. It is really hard finacially but i dont want to give up work. but then again i wouldnt need aftercare or holiday clubs. If i was to go term time they are normally full time hrs which i just cant do
im at work full time and get universal credit as well and get 85% of childcare costs back, you have to wait a month before you get it though which was hard at first. I claim my nursery and after school club fees
I have a 6 year old (nearly 7) with no family around me at all. I consider myself lucky as I work in a primary school (only 2 days/13.5hrs) so have half terms and holidays off. But for those 2 days I need care club. Luckily, I was able to make an arrangement with a mum to drop my child to school on the days I work in exchange of me taking hers for two days I don’t work. I save a bit there. I still pay for after school club though because I don’t really like to ask for favours. If they have after school activity on those days which are usually free (book club, sport club…) then I book and no need for after school club which is £4/hour.
