Lots of people think that you can’t foster if you are a single person with children.  Has anyone got any experience of being a foster carer or looking for me information?

I’m planning to be a foster carer once my son gets to gcse year, so four years time.

No idea if I’ll be any good at it, but willing to give it a go. I’ve already had info from the local council, and will start with emergency short term care and see how I get on.

Good luck 🙂  Have you spoken to other private agencies too or just the council?

Yes, I spoke to one agency. I’ll revisit when I get a bit closer.

    Hi

I enquired about a year ago and was told I’d need an additional bedroom as foster children are not allowed to share rooms.
So there goes any hopes for me for a very longtime.

I am a foster carer – originally with ex husband when applied but now foster as a single carer. I know other single Carers so not an issue. It can be tough at times and I don’t have a massive support network around me but I have long term placements and find it works really well. I started fostering before my two birth children were born so it’s all they’ve ever known. I won’t lie it can have a negative effect on your children at times and it will impact on their lives – but can also be very enriching. Matching is key. If you have younger children strongly suggest local authority rather than an agency. Agencies have the harder to place children who will demonstrate significantly more challenging behaviour and tend to be teenagers.
