    Hi,

I have been a single parent for almost a year now. I have 3 children aged 10,8 and 5. I started my current job around the same time I separated from my partner. I work full time and it is a very demanding job. I have been thinking about dropping a day at work and was just wondering if there is anyone else who has done and what there experiences are. I’m trying to get a better work life balance but I’m worried about the fiancial implications.

I reduced my full time hours to have a non working day (NWD) and condensed hours. I now work 30hrs with a day off. I would suggest you complete an income & expenditure form if you are worried about the financial implications so your clear about the financial impact.

I am a SP with a 12yr old and a mortgage and now I don’t have child care costs it works for me. I am able to make time for me and helps to meet the school training days by swapping my NWD if it doesn’t fall on my NWD. Best thing I ever did as I earn enough but also benefit from a day off to catch up at home so frees chore times on the weekend and I get to do things I like, such as gym classes and meeting with friends & family or shopping.  Hope it can work for you. Good luck!
