First time posting although I doubt I’m alone in my circumstances.

Going through separation at the moment and trying to find somewhere else to live but I haven’t spoken to a single estate agent that will take housing benefit/Universal credits. Feeling so stressed and overwhelmed, it’s sending my poor mental health into a terrible spiral. I don’t understand why there have to be so many barriers to things.

    Hi Vanilla

Try not to stress too much, something will definitely turn up. I was in exactly the same position a few years ago, with the added pitfall of trying to get somewhere that accepted pets.

We’d been evicted from our last home because the landlord wanted his property back due to a change in his circumstances.

I really do think there is discrimination against people on benefits, but it’s hard to prove as all they have to say is, it just went to another candidate. But as I say, stay strong ang try not to let it get to you too much, difficult I know as its a scary prospect not having a roof over your head.

Go to your local council as a fall back, as I believe they will have to sort something if all else fails. But try places like open rent, as I think if memory serves, there are a lot of independent landlords on there you can contact more or less directly.

You will find somewhere, we ended up with a place that exceeded expectations, as I’m sure you will too. If you want to talk about anything, just give me shout.

    Best of luck!
