Hi, I am new to this forum and hope that someone maybe able to help with my problem.

My ex-wife is a high earner, 6-figure, I am working in a supermarket part-time and struggling. I was a househusband for 12 years before divorce and have found it so hard to get back into the work place as a man nearing 50, with a large whole in my CV where my career should have been.

Recently she has started asking for financial help towards our children.

I receive the child benefit, and some credits and spend everything I get on my children, when they are with me.

I receive no maintenance from her, not that I asked for any, as she was determined that we should not have joint custody, but I have them with me as often as possible and whenever it suits her! She has declined my request for 50/50 contact.

I am finding it really stressful and don’t know what to do. I have nothing spare to offer her, as much as I would like to provide more for my children financially. She has threatened to claim the child benefit, even though she won’t get it or would have to pay it all back via tax, due to her income, which would take real money away from the children when they are with me.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Many thanks, in advance.

    M

Honestly, I’m not sure what is best. You may need advice that is more firmly legal-based. Try these links. The first one is incredibly useful with a wealth of knowledge. FNF hold regular local meetings with legal advice – you just turn up, no booking, no fee, and stick your hand up for advice and someone will put you straight. Worth a try! All the best.
