    Hi Im considering representing myself when i file for divorce i’ve  had a Chat with a solicitor and they’ve informed me that the cost is around £1500 but i’ve since found that this doesn’t incLude court fees of about £600
    i’ve had a look  online and there’s several places that offer a guided “do it yourself” package, has anyone had experience of this? A friend on mine recently filled for divorce and said he could have taken care of most of it himself. my concern is the financial settlement obviously I would look to a solicitor for this but would they chaRge be roughly the same as if i’d used them for the whole procEss. things are tight and I could really do with not throwing Money away unnecessarily.SO many things to consider my head is spinning. Right now i just need to make a start on getting my life back i just can’t afford the otheR options  {/Y}

    Hi Matt

    I went through divorce online I paid £400 for the divorce and consent order and an additional £550 for the court fee.  Both are still going through the process.  If you can sort out your financials with the OH then this is a cheap way of getting things completed.

    I hope this helps let me know if you have any further questions.

    I am looking into this as well. I have been separated from my ex for 6 years now and I have been wanting to start the divorce proceedings for a long time. It all comes down to the finances with as I am currently on Universal Credit and no CSA support.

    How can I put money on a divorce when i am just trying to make sure I am keeping a roof over my head for my two kids.

    Matt did you get any further with doing your divorce yourself?

    Hello  @Sal21music

    well how far have I got …… well I purchased a pack which gives me all of the forms a “plan of action” timeline and I think an hours legal advice on the phone. Cost me about £45.  A relative of mine  has done this themselves and tells me it’s fairly easy but  all the forms are available for free on a government website so you can do it all for nothing … well apart from the court costs which is about £540. A friend of mine also  recently got his divorce through and he said he could have done most of it himself so it’s worth looking at  (he had a financial order in addition which I don’t think this covers)… you known writing this I’m starting to realise I know a lot of divorcing or divorced people 😀

    In my case Ive had a long think about things and I’m now of the opinion that if my ex wants a divorce then she can pay for it.
    My friend who I’ve mentioned above tells me he stated at the time he wanted to recover costs and believed his solicitor would have done this, they haven’t so now he’s trying to get his money back by asking his ex. This was an eye opener for me, why put  yourself in that situation?
    so I’m asking for the money in advance, after all why should I have to do all the work and carry the financial burden? Oh also the recovery of costs only really applies to the court cost not the legal fees. Let me know how you get on
