    Hi everyone,

Myself and husband took part in mediation this week to discuss childcare arrangements, finances and living arrangements however, he failed to compromise and is standing firm on:

    – wanting me to move out of our jointly owned home and rent

    – getting 50/50 custody of our 2 year old twin girls (despite working 5 days a week / me 3 days, never doing even 10% of care & reasons for divorce being based on absence / neglect)

Therefore, the only option following our MIAM is to go to Court.

I am so scared of the costs involved and wondered if anyone could shed any light on what they spent during the process?

    Thanks xx

    hi,

when i went through court for child arrangement order, cost atleast £5000 as I used solicitor. if your on low income and get universal credit, you may be able to get legal aid, and then don’t have to pay for lawyer/legal fees.

Use a McKenzie Friend. Much cheaper, better advice.

I’ve spent £19000 so far and that’s only for child contact arrangements and half way through finances.  The average cost in the uk is £25.000.

Thanks so much! I’m hoping it’ll just be childcare that we end up in Court for but😔 How long did the process take you?

By the way how did you pay? As you go through the process for example or upfront?

It depends on the complexity of your case, my child arrangements order was very messy, my child was only a few weeks old when we started. My ex got legal aid so was happy to delay things and contest everything which cost me more money.  We also had a fact find hearing which is very expensive.  Luckily in the final order he has been identified as the perpetrator so will not be able to apply for legal aid again 🤞 he will back off now. The whole process from start to finish took 17months because of delays with Covid-19

my solicitor worked on the basis of credit in my account, so you would have to pay in advance and then work was done with those funds.

    hope that helps!
